Taipan John L. Gokongwei, Jr, is looking for more bright Filipinos to train here and in China to be among the country’s future leaders.

Last year, Gokongwei and the GBF China scholarship committee chose the first batch. The 34 young men and women were taught in Chinese language, culture and business were steeped in them at the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation Learning and Development Center in Pasig and later in China where they studied at the Beijing Language and Culture University for 10 months. This year, GBF send more than 30 bright Filipinos. GBF shouldered all the tuition fee expenses and provide monthly stipend and medical insurance to the scholars.

The scholars are under no obligation to work with JG Summit. All Gokongwei asks is that the scholars return to the Philippines and apply what they learn in China. Gokongwei is proud of what the China Scholarship has accomplished and is looking forward to sending younger, passionate Filipinos.

The scholars undergo a ten-month development program which will include learning Chinese language and culture, and selected elective studies in economics, management, and other development related fields.

They will spend the first five months of the program in a partner school in the Philippines and the remaining five months in a partner academic institution in China.

Those who are college graduates and with at least one year work experience, and from 21 to 30 years old are qualified to apply for the China Scholarships.

MFI Foundation, Inc. (formerly Meralco Foundation) strengthened its reputation as a training institution with a recent MFI’s partnership with Philippine Standard Shipmanagement, Inc. (PSSI) to provide technical training as part of PSSI’s cadet training program.

PSSI, in behalf of its principal Shinwa Marine Corporation, has tapped the MFI Technological Institute (MFI-TI) to conduct technical upgrading programs starting this month. The program has two-phases, with the first part covering basic subjects for both deck and engine cadets. The second phase will enhance the technical skills of engine cadets through training in electrical, electronics, instrumentation, and marine refrigeration.

PSSI will choose cadets among the fresh college graduates of Marine Engineering and Marine Transport programs. The first batch of cadets began their training at MFI-TI this month and the second batch will start in August.
